Greg was invited to present at the, July 2024
Thein Freetown Sierra Leone organised by the University of Sierra Leone and The Quantitative Biosciences Institute at University of California San Francisco. We had two days of talks from an International list of speakers considering infectious diseases and public health. It was a fabulous meeting where we learned plenty of new science and how to manage infectious diseases effectively in a resource poor setting. Then we visited a Health Care Centre in Kono District as well as the Koidu GovernmentHospital and the building project next door for the newbuilt byand. We were treated to a hugely inspiring tour of the site with construction supervisor John Chew who showed us how a 140 bed hospital facility can be built by training the local community. “They said we couldn’t do it, but we can and we will”.

Towers lab were back at the Cold Spring Harbor Retrovirus to showcase our work and catch up with collaborators. Kate presented "Novel Cofactor-Mimicking HIV-1 Capsid Inhibitors Drive Inate Immune Sensing" and Linran "The Regulation and Function of transposible Elements in Cancer and infection"

Lydia won the 3rd year poster prize for her poster "Fully Synthetis Macrocyclic PROTACs Selectively Degrade Cyclophillin A and Inhibit HIV-1". Linran won for her talk "Investigating the Relationship between Transposible Element Expression, Immune Infiltration and therapeutic Outcome in Cancer". Congratulations toboth!
Dara has wonfunding from theBiomedical Research Centre, Feb 2024
Dara has won funding for her project 'Establishing Transduction Enhancers for T-cell gene therapy.' from theNIHR ϲH Biomedical Research Centre (BRC). The aim of this BRC funding isto improve the outcomes of infectious and immune-mediated diseases by translating our mechanistic and applied research expertise into new approaches for diagnostics, patient stratification, and new immunomodulatory therapies.
