About Karthik

What was your experience of Further/Higher education like?Ìý

I started my higher education experience like many as a student. I am an alum of University of Sheffield, a place where I developedÌýbyÌýtaking up many opportunities beyond my academics. I returned to university life at The University of Melbourne. This gave meÌýaÌýunique perspective of being an international student. Studying my mastersÌýinÌýDevelopment Studies opened upÌýmyÌýworld to new people and new understandings. I continued to make the most of university life by taking up volunteering and other extra curriculum activities. I hold my time at both universities fondly, as it truly provided an environment to explore and develop. Something I want all students at Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê to have.Ìý

Professionally, I beganÌýmy higher educationÌýexperience with Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê’s Alumni team. I worked for 2 years as an Alumni & Supporter Care Officer. It meant I was able to interact with alumni and students both remotely but also in person during many events.ÌýThis time really showed the profound impact the time at Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê has on our students.Ìý

What do you like most about your work as a Student Adviser?

Being able to guide studentsÌýas they begin their university life. Seeing students discover and flourish due the opportunities and support we guide them towards is very rewarding. I also really like engaging with students and working to help them understand their new environment and community at Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê.

What's a surprising or interesting fact about yourself?

I have flown a plane, driven a combine harvester, anÌý18-wheelerÌýtruck, a speed boatÌýand the biggest chaser bin in the world (ask me what that is if you want a long story).
