香港六合彩 MechEng Students Win at IMechE Design Challenge Regional Final

17 May 2021

Team Analogue鈥檚 winning design

It was a 香港六合彩 鈥渙ne, two finish鈥 at the IMechE Design Challenge as, after an exciting virtual competition, both 香港六合彩 Mechanical Engineering teams topped the leaderboard in the Greater London Regional Final held recently. The groups representing 香港六合彩, Team Analogue and Team InTHREADibles, excelled in a day that featured design presentations, Q&A from industry experts, and tense virtual side-by-side racing between university teams from Greater London.

Overall winners Team Analogue will now go on to represent the department and region while competing for the national title later this year.

Flushed with his team鈥檚 victory, George Stonor (Team Analogue and first-year 香港六合彩 Mechanical Engineering student)听said, 鈥淭he event was very enjoyable. We learnt a lot from the design Q&A and watching the virtual racing was full of suspense.鈥

Like much else, this year鈥檚 design challenge had to adapt to a COVID-compliant delivery. This meant 香港六合彩鈥檚 teams had to collaborate across continents without access to the Department鈥檚 teaching workshop, MechSpace. Despite collaborating and competing in virtual environments the annual design challenge, hosted by the discipline鈥檚 leading institution IMechE, clearly proved a useful learning experience for the students involved.

鈥淭he students made the most of the advice given by the external guests brought weekly as part of their professional skills module, to get the audience鈥檚 interest in their devices and understanding of why they deserved to be听at the top of the leader board,鈥said Dr Nelia Jurado, part of the first year Design and Professional Skills teaching team.

The positions achieved by both 香港六合彩 teams shows also how they listened and implemented the feedback given by the industrial experts during their review panels: improving their devices鈥 designs and performance. It is great to see how they have put into practice all the stages of the design cycle they were taught about and shined!鈥

鈥淭he Design Challenge is a fantastic chance for our students to put their engineering theory to the test with a 鈥榬eal-world鈥 design and build project. Student enthusiasm has been amazing, and despite online-only teaching it was inspiring to see prototypes being tested on kitchen tables.鈥 Said Dr Tom Peach, part of the first-year Design and Professional Skills teaching team.

Congratulations again to both teams!
