Events update: Covid-19

12 March 2020

A letter from our Director, Prof Rebcecca Shipley

Dear healthcare engineering community,

Many of you that were signed up to attend one of Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê Institute of Healthcare Engineering's upcoming events will have received communications from us earlier today to let you know that the event is being postponed.Ìý

It is with great reluctance that we will not be going ahead with these, but the health of our community is our priority and we are aware that this is a time of uncertainty and anxiety for many of us. We have made the decision to postpone all planned Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê Institute of Healthcare Engineering-led events until the end of May, including the Adapt to Thrive event tomorrow with the Academic Careers Office, research workshops and talks through our Colloquium Series.Ìý

We will be doing our best to provide alternatives and will be rescheduling existing events, as well as exploring the idea of online webinars during this time. As always, we welcome your thoughts on this and are always contactable at healthcare-eng@ucl.ac.uk.Ìý

We would like to commend researchers within our healthcare engineering community that have diverted their focus to help tackle Covid-19. This includes Prof Martina Micheletti, Director of  (Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê Biochemical Engineering) whose team is working with the  to accelerate the manufacturing process for the  2019-nCoV vaccine. Another team through  led by Prof Rachel McKendry (London Centre for Nanotechnology), has been working to  to support the development of emergency diagnostics and surveillance to assess the prevalence of the virus.

As an institution, Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê continues to follow the  and any institutional updates can be found at .Ìý

If you have any concerns about your health you should contact the free NHS 111 telephone helpline (or find specific advice on the  if you are unable to get through).

Stay safe and, again, we are sorry to disappoint those of you that were looking forward to upcoming events.Ìý

Best wishes,

Rebecca Shipley
Director of Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê Institute of Healthcare EngineeringÂ
