An exciting opportunity to study the scientific basis of Sport and Exercise Medicine, the newest medical specialty.
Overview
Throughout this course, you will learn from renowned experts working in elite sport and academia about:
- The scientific basis, evidence and practical skills in exercise prescription and promotion for chronic disease prevention and management.
- Principles of musculoskeletal and sports injuries covering relevant anatomy and physiology, aetiology and mechanisms, diagnosis and treatment.
- Clinical examination of the musculoskeletal system and biomechanical assessment.
- Fundamental exercise physiology relating to health, disease and sporting performance. Designing effective strength and conditioning programs, as well as conducting and interpreting Cardiopulmonary Exercise Tests.
- Tissue healing principles underlying exercise prescription and rehabilitation of injuries relating to bone, cartilage, muscle, tendon and ligaments.
- Practical application of the research process, including ethics, data protection, robust methodology, medical statistics, and development of skills in presenting work at medical conferences and scientific writing in medical journals.

- Sport and Exercise PhysiologyÂ
- Principles of Exercise MedicineÂ
- Research Methods and Project InitiationÂ
- Assessment of Biomechanics and Sports InjuriesÂ
- Tissue Injury and Healing.
Dissertation
The final component of the iBSc is an in-depth research project. You will:
- Have access to a large array of research projects at Institute of Sport Exercise & Health, relating to population health, exercise physiology, musculoskeletal and basic science.Â
- Have opportunities to experience collaborative research with elite sports organisations.Â
- Aim to present work at conferences and publish work in peer reviewed journals.Â

- Entry requirements: The successful completion of a programme of study equivalent to MBBS Year 2 at a Medical School with a Partnership Agreement with Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê.
