Signpost mental health support services to a student

There is always help available to students throughout their time with us at Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê. Our professional staff provide advice and support on a wide range of issues.

Before you start

Please note that the Disability, Mental Health and Wellbeing team is now located adjacent to the Student Enquiries Centre on the first floor of the Student Centre.

A student experiencing wellbeing difficulties may feel that speaking with you is enough.ÌýIn all cases you should encourage some of the other support below or self-help. Put a date in your diary to check in with the student again and see how they are getting on.

The Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê Student Support and Wellbeing (SSW) webpages have lots of resources to help students stay healthy and look after their wellbeing.

Many students feel better after making changes to their lifestyle, such as:

  • increasing physical activity;
  • eating healthily;
  • doing something creative; and
  • being mindful of their alcohol consumption.

However, some students may benefit from support and advice. There is a wealth of support resources available.

  • Drop-in sessions and appointments: Visit this page to find out more about the scope of these sessions and when and where they are held. Drop-in advisers can refer students to free psychological and counselling services.
  • Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê’s (phone and online) out-of-hours support service.Ìý
  • Students should keep their GP informed of any mental health difficulties; students should be encouraged to register with a GP if they haven't done so already (they can on the NHS website); many students can register with , Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê's partner GP surgery.Ìý

These are just some of the many support services that the student can access.
