A New Research Fellow Position Available!

7 October 2020

A new research fellow position is open to apply. The project of this position involves investigation of graphene based highly thermal and electrical conductive composites.

Location:ÌýÌý ÌýLondon
Salary:ÌýÌý Ìý£36,028 to £37,008 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance (Grade 7)
Hours:ÌýÌý ÌýFull Time
Contract Type:ÌýÌý ÌýFixed-Term/Contract
Closes:ÌýÌý Ìý6th November 2020
Ìý

The Research fellow will join a dynamic and multidisciplinary research team working on engineering graphene based composite materials and their application in heat transfer and electrics.Ìý

This position is within the research group of Solar Energy and Advanced Materials led by Prof Junwang Tang, Fellow of European Academy of Sciences and FRSC. The project involves investigation of Ìýgraphene based highly thermal and electrical conductive composites.Ìý

The EPSRC Discovery-to-Use project targets to develop low cost, lightweight and highly conductive composites and their multi-function based on our IP which was presented by the only IChemE Business Award in 2019Ìý

The major task of this new position is to engineer the highly thermally and electrically conductive composites.Ìý

  • Fabricate graphene and graphene composites independently.Ìý
  • Characterise the prepared materials, analyse the experimental data and provide written and/or oral reports of the resultsÌý
  • Optimisation of the material synthesis condition to achieve highly thermal and electrical conductivity.Ìý
  • Contribute to the induction, direction and management of other research staff and students (undergraduate and postgraduate) as requested.Ìý
  • Collaborate with academic colleagues and industrial partners in the project.Ìý
  • Prepare papers for publication and present them to our industrial partners.Ìý

The post is funded for 1 years in the first instance.Ìý

The successful candidate will work in a multidisciplinary project, involving researchers from Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê Chemical Engineering and in particular a few industrial partners with expertise in nanomaterials, 2-D materials, and composites, which have a strong interest to commercialise these newly developed composites. Therefore the candidate should have, or should be close to completing, a PhD or equivalent in Materials or Chemistry. Expertise in carbon-based composite or nanosized metal materials is essential. Experience in graphene-based composites is advantageous. You should be capable of working under your own initiative and leading a small research team, so excellent communication and organisational skills are also required.Ìý

The group uses a wide range of wet chemical and physical approaches for inorganic material synthesis, and apply the state of the art spectroscopies to explore the correlation between the structure and properties of inorganic materials. Our long term aim is to generate a group of highly thermally and electrically conductive graphene-based materials and their commercialisation.Ìý

Applicants should apply .ÌýIf you have any queries regarding the vacancy or the application process, please contact Prof. Tang byÌýjunwang.tang@ucl.ac.uk.
