Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê Health and Safety Objectives 2021/2022

The health and safety objectives for Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê are agreed annually by the Work Health and Safety Committee and are part of the Safety Management System.

Objective 1: T100 Programme


  • All high hazard departments to achieve T100 Level 1 by October 2022
  • All departments achieving Level 1 to have plans in place for achieving Level 2 within 12 to 18 months from Level 1 achievement
  • All low hazard departments to achieve T100 Lite by October 2022 

Objective 2: Radiation Safety Risk Assessments


  • All departments using ionising radiations to have a documented plan in place, approved by Safety Services, by April 2022 to review their radiation risk assessments using the new templates 
  • All departments using Class 3R, 3B, or 4 lasers to have a documented plan in place, approved by Safety Services, by May 2022 to review their laser risk assessments using the new templates
    • Radiation risk assessment templates will be notified to Radiation Protection Supervisors when available
    • Laser risk assessment templates will be notified to Laser Safety Officers when they are available

Objective 3: Stress Management


  • All stress risk assessments recommended by Workplace Health (WH) as part of a management referral will be reported by Faculty/Professional Services area to the Work Health and Safety Committee on a monthly basis
  • Managers to record stress risk assessments completed with their reports through riskNET. These will be reported by Faculty/Professional Services area to Work Health and Safety Committee and compared against those recommended by WH on a monthly basis.  The expectation is that higher numbers of stress risk assessments are taking place than those recommended by WH
  • Where high levels of stress are identified Faculties/Professional Services areas (department/team) to complete a risk assessment detailing actions taken, and actions identified, as per agreed timescale
    • Stress risk assessment templates will be notified to Departmental Safety Officers when available

Objective 4: Fire


  • To increase compliance with the mandatory fire safety training for staff new starters to 95% by September 2022 
  • To increase compliance for fire safety refresher training for staff to 40% compliance by September 2022

Objective 5: Hazardous Waste


All departments generating hazardous waste to have in place a waste management plan which should cover:

  • Types of hazardous waste generated including waste from spill or leak containment
  • The name of the person who is responsible for the waste from production to removal from the site
  • Information on when waste is reduced, reused or recycled as well as how it is processed (landfill, heat treatment etc)
  • How the quantity of waste generated will be monitored
    • Waste management plan templates will be notified to Departmental Safety Officers when available
