In support of the Division of Psychiatry’s Race Equity and Ethnic Diversity (REED) strategy, our Director made six pledges. Our progress to date can be viewed by clicking on each pledge.
- Pledge1:Blank name recruitment for Grade 6b posts(names removed from applications)
- PDF packs of applications sent to recruiting managers have been anonymised since NOV-21. But applicant names were still visible on with the old recruitment system. Since OCT 2022, Blinding is now possible on the new recruitment system. Applicants are directed to provide all relevant information in their personal statement because uploaded documents would compromise blinding.
- Pledge2:Fair recruitment specialists must be contacted for all posts Grade 8 and above
- In 2022:
- Fair recruitment specialists were requested for 100% of Grade 8 and above vacancies
- Fair recruitment specialists were available for 43% of interviews
- We are looking for alternative approaches to support fair recruitment
- Pledge3:Inclusive Advocacy scheme, B-Mentor Scheme and Accelerate to Leadership scheme, all to be added to the appraisal checklist and discussed with all BME staff in appraisals
- Progress so far:
- Prompts about advocacy and mentoring schemes have been added to the appraisal checklist
- The Accelerate to Leadership scheme is not currently running
- Pledge 4: Executive committee to take part in a structured conversation about race and racism
- A facilitated group discussion with the Executive Committee was held OCT 2021
- Pledge 5: Teaching staff to do “Theory of Inclusion” training when it is available
None: this training is still not available
- Pledge 6: PhD students required to take unconscious bias training as part of their induction
- This was added to the mandatory induction training for OCT-22
