Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê Council confirms Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê/IOE merger decision
21 October 2014
Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê Council has today (20 October) confirmed its decision that Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê should merge with the Institute of Education (IOE).
Subject to legal agreements and final approval at the meeting of IOE Council on 25 November, the two universities will merge from 2 December 2014.
Having embarked on a strategic partnership in October 2012, the two institutions announced in February this year that they were to consult on a proposed merger. The IOE Council confirmed its support for merger at its meeting on 8 October.
Professor Michael Arthur, Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê Provost, said: "Today's decision by Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê Council marks another important step towards a merger that both our institutions believe will deliver significant advances in the field of social sciences and education.
"The combination of the IOE and Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê can be much more than the sum of their parts, and I believe that both of us will gain from working as a single institution, delivering new research collaborations, and curriculum developments, as well as extending our influence and reach."
