Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê launches Care Leavers Bursary for undergraduate students

25 September 2013

In 2009 Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê was awarded the Buttle UK Quality Mark in recognition of our commitment to supporting students from a care leaving background, both through our widening participation activities and while they're at Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê.

To extend our support for care leavers, we have now launched a Care Leaver's Bursary for eligible undergraduate students.

Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê recognises that students who come from a care leaving background can face particular challenges while at university that their peers are less likely to face; one of which is funding their way through university. Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê has set up the Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê Care Leavers Bursary to enable and encourage students who live in or have lived in local authority care to pursue their undergraduate studies at Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê.

Awards are available to first-year undergraduates starting in the 2013/14 academic session for an initial three-year period. The successful recipients of this bursary will be awarded £1,000 per annum for the duration of their programme at Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê subject to satisfactory academic progress. (The bursary will be paid in addition to any funding received through the main Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê Bursary/NSP schemes).

Students who have indicated on their UCAS form that they have been in care will be contacted by Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê with further details of how to apply for the Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê Care Leavers Bursary. Any students who haven't indicated on their UCAS form that they have been in care are still eligible for the Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê Care Leavers Bursary and are encouraged to apply.
