11-year old Billy Farha raises thousands for Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê

31 January 2013

Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê has received a substantial donation from an 11-year old boy, who raised the money by doing a sponsored run around Hyde Park.

Billy Farha

Billy Farha ran 7 km around the park, and raised over £12,000 in the process. The money will be given to the Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê Cancer Institute, which is dedicated to fighting cancer and contains the largest concentration of biomedical researchers in Europe.

This donation is the latest in a long line of philanthropy from the Farha family. Billy's father, George, is a Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê alumnus (BEng Chemical Engineering 1991), and a generous supporter of the university through the Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊU George Farha Café Bar and Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê's scholarship programme.

Speaking at an event to celebrate his donation, Billy said: "It's nice to help raise money. I just wanted to do something to improve the lives of children."

A plaque has been placed in the Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊU George Farha Café Bar to commemorate Billy's gift.
