Part 1 - News

News stories include David Weston, Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê Media Relations Manager, talking about new research led by new Professor Charles Swanton of the Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê Cancer Institute, which has found that taking a sample from just one part of a tumour may not give a full picture of its 'genetic landscape'. Ìý

It's also Brain Awareness Week this week, which is something that we like to celebrate as there are so many neuroscientists at Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê. ÌýOn Tuesday the Lunch Hour Lecture series included a lecture from Dr Mark Lythgoe who took his audience on a tour of the greatest brain in 20th Century - Albert Einstein's. Also, on Friday the British Library and Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê Neuroscience are hosting 'The Performing Brain: A moving story', which aims to bring neuroscientists, musicians and dancers together to explore how we adapt and learn new abilities. Ìý

Lastly, the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) recently announced the award of £18 million to three projects in the faculty. The aim of the funding is to help these projects make a major impact in the fields of information and communications technology to meet increasing demand for more automation and more data.

Part 2 - Tarkhan dress & rat trap at the Petrie

At Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê we've got some pretty amazing museums, so over the next few months we're going to feature some of the wonderful objects in the Grant Museum of Zoology, The Petrie Museum of Egyptian Archaeology and the Art museum. So to kick everything off this week, George went down to chat to Tracey Golding, Visitor Services Officer at the Petrie, to find out more about ancient Egypt, Sudan, and some of the wonderful antiquities tucked away in the museum.

Part 3 - MakeSpaceÌý

In keeping with this week's engineering theme, Clare popped down to the department's new MakeSpace group to make some chainmail and chat to director Professor Mark Miodownik. A new initiative at Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê, the MakeSpace wasÌýconceivedÌýby Professor Anthony Finkelstein, Dean of Engineering Sciences Faculty, with the aim of raising awareness of the importance of materials and making.Ìý
