Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê

Professor Dame Hazel Genn has been appointed Dean of the Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê Faculty of Laws for a five-year term.

Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê Laws is recognised as having one of the top research departments of law in the United Kingdom, rated in the highest category for both research (5*A) and teaching (Excellent).

Dame Hazel Genn is currently Professor of Socio-Legal Studies and co-director of the Centre for Empirical Legal Studies. She previously was Head of the Department of Law at Queen Mary, University of London. She formerly held research posts at the Oxford Centre for Socio-Legal Studies and the Cambridge Institute of Criminology. She is a distinguished empirical legal researcher and expert in access to justice and dispute resolution. She has served on many public bodies, including the Committee on Standards in Public Life, and in 2006 was appointed an Inaugural Commissioner of the Judicial Appointments Commission.

I look forward to working with my colleagues in Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê Laws and in other Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê faculties to build on our reputation for excellence and innovation in research and teaching, and to help address the global challenges of inequality, security, sustainability and identity. I am also keen to strengthen the faculty's links with the profession in London and enhance the key role that Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê academics have played globally in developing legal policy and practice."
