Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê and Goldsmiths to collaborate on Creative Computing

  • Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê Computer Science and the Department of Computing at Goldsmiths, University of London, have agreed a research and teaching tie-up in creative computing; the blend of culture and creative industries such as gaming.

    The aim is to help students and researchers build better virtual environments by combining the arts and cognitive science strengths of Goldsmiths with those in virtual reality (VR), scientific visualisation and human computer interaction (HCI) at Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê.

    A spokesperson said: "In one direction, there will be investigations into new technological tools with applications to the creative areas, for example to help create new artistic work, new content for games, to better understand the creative processes, or to better support the digital preservation or re-generation of existing or lost artefacts, contemporary or ancient.

    "In the other direction, artistic creative solutions will be explored to answer important problems in novel fruitful ways, for example in the computer science areas of graphics and visualisation, VR, HCI, as well as important related disciplines such as Bioinformatics."

    The collaboration was initiated at Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê by Professor Anthony Finkelstein (Head of Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê Computer Science) and Dr Anthony Steed (Head of the Virtual Environments and Computer Graphics group) and at Goldsmiths by Professors William Latham and Frederic Fol Leymarie, founders of the Mutators Research Group.
