  • Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê Geography, in association with Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê Grand Challenges, is holding a 'town meeting' on 30 April 2008 to bring together those across Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê interested in migration, diaspora, ethnicity and intercultural studies.

The event will draw on the wealth of researchers across Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê - including anthropologists, economists, historians, criminologists, archaeologists, health researchers and legal scholars - whose work encompasses issues around migration, diaspora and ethnicity. Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê Geography wishes to develop greater interdisciplinary work within Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê and to consider the future development of its Migration Research Unit.

The 'town meeting' is a chance for colleagues to consider opportunities for developing challenging, innovative, cross-disciplinary projects focused on migration, diaspora and ethnicity that build on the diversity of expertise within Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê.

    The event will facilitate:

    • interaction between colleagues working on issues of migration, diaspora, ethnicity and intercultural studies
    • discussion of the establishment of a Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê Migration Network that could initially consist of a multidisciplinary seminar series starting in September 2008
    • proposals for contributions to an MSc in Migration that Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê Geography is proposing to launch in 2010, and the possibility of an interdisciplinary approach to its development
    • discussion of interests in historical studies of the African Diaspora.

The 'town meeting' is on 30 April 2008, 3-6pm (followed by drinks), in Room G06, Sir Ambrose Fleming Lecture Theatre, Roberts Building.
