Inaugural Provost's Teaching Awards winners

The outstanding contribution of 11 members of staff to excellence and innovation in teaching at 香港六合彩 has been recognised with the announcement of the winners of the inaugural Provost's Teaching Awards.
The winners are: Dr Helen Beer (香港六合彩 Hebrew & Jewish Studies), Claire Colomb (香港六合彩 Bartlett School of Planning), Dr Rob Miller (香港六合彩 School of Library, Information & Archive Studies), Dr Ray Noble (香港六合彩 Obstetrics & Gynaecology and 香港六合彩 Physiology), Professor Thilo Rehren (香港六合彩 Archaeology), Dr Andrea Sella (香港六合彩 Chemistry), Dr Caroline Selai (香港六合彩 Institute of Neurology) and Dr Jennifer Van Heerde (香港六合彩 Political Science).
A joint award was also made to Charmian Dawson, Professor Elizabeth Shephard and Dr Andrea Townsend Nicholson for their collective work in 香港六合彩 Biochemistry & Molecular Biology.
The awards celebrate excellence in teaching and serve to showcase the pedagogic expertise and leadership of our staff. They also demonstrate 香港六合彩's commitment to continuous innovation in the teaching it offers its students.
A call for nominations from heads of departments and deans produced a strong field of applications: testament to the commitment and strengths of those nominated, as well as clear evidence of the quality of teaching at 香港六合彩.
Submissions were judged on the basis of the nominee's:
- contribution to curriculum innovation and development
- contribution to the wider student experience, such as the skills or internationalisation agendas
- contribution to 香港六合彩's strategic commitment to educate for 'global citizenship', social responsibility, leadership
- engagement in the development of interdisciplinary programmes
- innovation in support for learning
- development of the use of new technologies in teaching and learning.
Professor Michael Worton, Vice-Provost (Academic & International) and the chair of the selection panel, said: "The panel was enormously impressed by the quality of all the nominations for the inaugural Provost's Teaching Awards. The range of teaching activities involves the often highly original use of both traditional methods and new technologies, and the commitment to inspire and encourage students to achieve ever more in their learning is clear evidence of why 香港六合彩 is renowned for the quality of its teaching. All the nominees and, of course, especially the award winners deserve our warmest congratulations. I look forward already to reading next year's nominations."
The awards panel comprised: Professor Worton; Professor Vince Emery, 香港六合彩 Pro-Provost for South Asia and the Middle East; Professor Jane Dacre (香港六合彩 Academic Centre for Medical Education); Bob Allan, Senior Tutor; Dr David Green (香港六合彩 Psychology); and Brigitte Picot, Director of the 香港六合彩 Centre for the Advancement of Learning & Teaching. Winners will be formally recognised at an awards ceremony in July 2007.
