Parents' Annual Reception

21 March 2007

More than 1,200 parents of undergraduate students came to Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê for the annual Parents Reception on Saturday 10 March in order to find out for themselves about Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê and where the university is going in the future.

Short talks were given at each of three sessions by John Foreman, Dean of Students, who outlined some of the significant improvements for students, especially in the quality of teaching, since he was a student at Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê; and by Michael Worton, Vice-Provost (Academic & International), who spoke about Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê's international vision and especially the university's Global Citizenship agenda.Ìý

There was music from student society Bongos and Ethnic Music, and performances by the Dance Society, as well as talks from Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê academic staff, showcasing some of Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê's innovative work in fields ranging from nanotechnology to SSEES, and from Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê Collections to Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê Business.

Each session ran over its scheduled time, as the parents stayed on to talk with Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê academics and with each other.

The event will be followed up with newsletters to parents, and an even bigger event is planned next year.
