Delegates discussed issues surrounding appraisal and collection of archives and artefacts. Speakers from centres including The National Archives, The University of Toronto, The Netherlands Archive School and The National Maritime Museum gave papers on appraisal theory and practice, documentation strategies and archival collections in museums, after which members held small group discussions, leading to ideas for a national research agenda for archives and records.

Dr Elizabeth Shepherd, Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê SLAIS, who organised the conference, said: "Bringing together practitioners and academics to discuss the value of research in our discipline has led to some excellent ideas for projects and possible new collaborations."

The ARMReN Research Network programme is funded by the Arts & Humanities Research Council Networks scheme. Research workshops are a key part of ARMReN's work, and a further two conferences are being held this year. The next will be at Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê again on 26 June, followed by a third in Liverpool on 13 September.
