31 March 2006

Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê's fifth internal conference on sharing innovation and excellence in teaching was held on 29 and 30 March 2006.

Teaching and Learning conference1

'Teaching & Learning at Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê: The Way Forward 2006' is likely the largest of its kind in the UK university sector. Thirty-five papers were presented and discussed, alongside 28 demonstrations and posters.
The event's wide-ranging programme included, but was not confined to, approaches that exploit communications and information technologies. Topics addressed ranged from novel widening-participation schemes in the Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê Medical School to the spatial literacy in teaching, and from Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê students in the global job market to online student-evaluation questionnaires.

Professor Michael Worton, Vice-Provost for Teaching & Learning, called the range of topics and discussion enormously instructive and imaginative. He said the projects presented were notable both for their risk-taking and for their alignment with Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê's strategies for information, and for teaching and learning. Many were evidence of Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê's determination to infuse its curriculum with global citizenship.

The event drew on expertise from across Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê departments, and was organised by Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê Education & Information Support Division (EISD).To find out more about teaching and lerarning at Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê, or Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê EISD, use the links at the top of this article.
