3 November 2005
Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê's ongoing commitment to building relationships with countries throughout the world was reinforced on 28 October 2005, when the Brazilian Ambassador met with Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê's President and Provost, Professor Malcolm Grant.
After discussing with Professor Grant and Professor Michael Worton, Vice-Provost, Academic & International, how the embassy and Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê could work together, the Ambassador met with some of Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê's Brazilian community for lunch. Addressing the guests Senor Bustani said: "It's a pleasure to see so many Brazilian students here at Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê. Brazilians are attracted to the UK by the high quality of its research and it's important to foster this relationship. The Embassy has started a new group for Brazilian students which will get together twice a year, but please remember the Embassy is open to you all throughout the year - it's your home in London."
Speaking at the event Professor Grant said: "It's an enormous pleasure to welcome Senor José Mauricio Bustani and Senor Paulo Wrobel to Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê. We have been discussing how we can foster fuller relationships between Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê and Brazil. I hope today marks the first of many meetings between Senor Bustani and myself."
There are currently 33 Brazilian students studying at Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê, all drawn by the university's worldwide reputation for cutting edge research. Mr Tiato De Luca (MA Film Studies), who attended the lunch said: "Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê has a great reputation, particularly for my course, I was delighted to be offered a place on my first choice course and am very happy to be here."
The Ambassador later went on a tour of the Wolfson Institute for Biomedical Research, where he met staff and researchers and was given a number of demonstrations in their labs.
