Racial equality perspective on hardship
21 July 2004
Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê staff members from ethnic minorities have joined the panel of staff who consider student's eligibility for hardship funds.
The Access to Learning Fund, which was formerly known as the Access & Hardship Fund, attracts about 1,000 student applications each year and awards up to £600,000 to students experiencing financial difficulties.
Professor Fred Pearce, Deputy Dean of Students, said: "Following a proposal by the Academic Committee Race Equality Review Group on Student Issues, we issued a direct appeal to all Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê staff. After a positive response, I am delighted to announce that two further staff members have been appointed to join the panel. This will ensure greater racial awareness when hardship funds are being allocated each year and continues Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê's pioneering tradition of education for all."
