Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê's President and Provost, Professor Malcolm Grant, will welcome all former students to attend Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê's Alumni Open Day on Saturday 9 October 2004, a day of thought-provoking debate and lectures with the opportunity to gain insight into some of Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê's current exciting projects.

Events kick-off with a reception at 11.30am, hosted by Professor Grant.

Many of Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê's current academic staff will be taking time out to ensure that Open Day is a fulfilling experience for the alumni in attendance. Dr Negley Harte, Senior Lecturer in History and co-author of 'The World of Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê 1828-1990', will host a tour entitled 'The Secret World of Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê', introducing alumni to interesting and little known facts of Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê history. Dr Craig Ritchie (Psychiatry & Behavioural Sciences) will host a lecture entitled 'Alzheimer 's Disease: Hope for the Future?', while Dr Andrew Coates of Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê's Mullard Space Science Laboratory will discuss Europe's first solo mission to Mars.

One of the many highlights of Open Day is the afternoon panel discussion chaired by Professor Grant. This promises to be a lively debate on Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê's most significant impacts on world society. The panellists, a mix of alumni and academics, include: Dr Raj Persaud (Psychology 1983; Medical School 1986), psychiatrist and broadcaster; Professor Michael Spyer, Vice-Provost (Biomedicine) and Dean of the Royal Free & University College Medical School; and Professor John Aiken, Director of Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê's Slade School of Fine Art.

Events wind up in the evening with a wine-tasting session and the main reception and dinner, complete with special guest speaker. Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê's Grant Museum of Zoology & Comparative Anatomy, Petrie Museum of Egyptian Archaeology, and Art Collections will also be welcoming visiting alumni throughout the day.
