12 February 2003

Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê welcomes the news from the DTI that it is to receive £63,889,111 from the Science Research Investment Fund.

Provost and President, Sir Derek Roberts says;

"We are delighted that Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê has received the largest award in the country from the Science Research Investment Fund. This award reflects our position as the leading research institution in the UK and shows a clear commitment from Government to investment in scientific excellence.

All universities are now faced with the prospect of a very short submission and completion deadline for proposed projects, however we feel sure that this award will allow Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê to develop many exciting scientific projects."

This is the second time Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê has received the largest UK award from the Science Research Investment Fund. In 2001, Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê was awarded £46.4 million for research in sciences, engineering and medicine.
