Academic staff to benefit from changes made to Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê consultancies

28 August 2003

A new subsidiary of Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê, Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê Consultants Ltd, has been set up to channel all administrative, contractual and financial aspects of Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê consultancy projects, effective from 1 August 2003.

The distinctions between 'private' and 'Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê' consultancies will remain, meaning that academics involved with consultancy projects not using Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê resources will retain the freedom to do so. However, all consultancy work conducted on Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê premises - including contracts under £5,000 - must now be channelled through Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê Consultants Ltd.

Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê Consultants Ltd, led by Ms Susanne Westfold-Scott, will have four full-time staff - including one contracts executive, an office administrator and two finance officers. Ms Westfold-Scott said: "The team is dedicated to all Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê consultancy projects, from initial quotations through to final claims and payments to the consultant and Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê department. The unit will exclusively handle consultancies, and has experience in negotiating commercial rates for various types of consultancy project, including arrangements for sub-contracts."

Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê Business is holding a question and answer session in the Wolfson Building's Lecture Theatre 2 on Monday 4 August at 1pm. Ms Westfold-Scott is also available to answer individual questions or give a presentation to departments if numbers so require. The Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê Consultants Ltd web page will be completed soon, containing all the latest information.
