The management of end-stage renal failure and dialysis therapy now represents the biggest workload for most renal units. We are managing an ever-higher proportion of older patients, often with multiple co-morbidities. ÌýThis 3-day course serves as a forum in which professionals and trainees in nephrology can gain a thorough grounding in the area of renal replacement therapy.
Who is this course for?
The course is aimed at specialist registrars in nephrology but will also be of interest to other healthcare professionals involved in the management of patients with chronic renal failure.

- acquire a practical understanding of dialysis therapy and management of patients with end-stage renal failure
- review basic theory through to the latest clinical developments
- identify the clinical and technical skills required for the management of patients on a modern dialysis programme

- Haemodialfiltration (HDF)

- Technical aspects of dialysis
- Dialysis adequacy
- VolumeÌýmanagementÌýin dialysis patients
- Challenging dialysis scenarios
- Practical haemodialysis prescribing
- Complications of dialysis
- Renal replacement therapy modification in acute kidney injury
Day 3:Ìý
- Basics of peritoneal dialysis (PD)
- Access in PD
- Complications in PD
- Can patients be maintained on PD in the longer term?
- Surgery in encapsulating peritoneal sclerosis
- Dialysis in older people
- A personal history of dialysis
Accreditation
Previous courses have been awarded 15-18Ìýexternal CPD points byÌýtheÌýRoyal College of Physicians UKÌýand we anticipate the 2025 course to be awarded the same.ÌýTheÌýÌýprovides accreditation as a supportiveÌýprocess of evaluating the quality of clinical services and promotes quality improvement through highlighting areas of best practice and areas for change, encouraging the continued development of the clinical service.
