Description

Aims:

Biology, Chemistry and Physics students will broaden their understanding of how to promote science learning exploring some more innovative pedagogies.Ìý There will be a focus on how to encourage their students to think creatively, and on how they can use assessment to further pupil's learning (AfL).

Physics with Mathematics students will also engage with diversity in Mathematics education and reflect on the purposes of Mathematics education and its role in society.

Outcomes:

As a biology, chemistry or physics student, you will:

  • learn about using creativity in science education to both develop innovative teaching resources and activities, and to actively promote the creative thinking in your students;
  • continue to develop your use of assessment recognising that it provides you with valuable information regarding where the students currently are, and so informs you on the next steps to maximise their progression, within a single lesson and / or over a sequence of lessons;
  • critically evaluate issues of formative assessment in Science at KS3 and how schools are developing their approach to progression and assessment levels;
  • Ìýtrack students over time to understand more about at their attainment.

As a Physics with Mathematics student you will:

  • widen your educational studies to engage with diversity in Mathematics classrooms in London schools.
  • critically explore the place of Mathematics education has within the wider experience of individuals and within the school curriculum as a whole, enabling you to reflect critically on the purposes of Mathematics education and its roles in society as well as on the practical implications for curriculum design.
