Description

Summary

This module is designed for physiotherapists who want to develop advanced knowledge and skills in the management of patients with musculoskeletal dysfunction of the upper limb, cervical and thoracic spine. It is an expectation that course participants will have a minimum of 2 years’ relevant clinical experience. This is essential as students will be expected to present and discuss relevant cases from their clinical practice to their peers.

The course content

  • Anatomy, biomechanics and pathology affecting the cervico-thoracic spine and upper limb
  • The diagnosis, assessment and appropriate management of articular, neural and muscle dysfunction
  • Pain mechanisms including nociceptive, neurogenic, central, sympathetically maintained and affective disorders
  • The theoretical basis and practical application of evidence informed clinical reasoning
  • Chronic pain management
  • Leading and developing clinical services within the context of musculoskeletal physiotherapy
