This module will provide an overview of the well-established theories of child development before examining, in detail, recent theories in this field. Taking a critically evaluative approach, students will develop a knowledge of the development of modern theories of child development in scientific, social and cultural contexts. Recent advances in this field of research will be discussed, including evidence from neuroimaging, lifespan development, evolutionary theory and epigenetics. This knowledge will be used to explore the implications of theory for practice in educational, social and cultural settings.
