p/The birth, evolution, and dissolution of the Soviet Union were crucial events for the history of the twentieth century. At the same time, international events had a profound effect on the USSR, its people, and its institutions. This module introduces students to the main ideas and developments that shaped Soviet history between 1945 and 1991. It explores the global rivalry that emerged after the end of the Second World War between the USSR and the West, in terms of politics, economics, society, and culture. The first part of the course will provide students with a chronological framework. The second part will deepen and expand their knowledge of thematic topics, ranging from political economy to gender relations, and from the development of nuclear weapons to the establishment of school curricula./p
