Description
Techniques in Molecular Medicine: A Practical Approach is a basic scientific discipline which provides the knowledge of molecular biology and cell biology which is used in academic labs, pharma, and biotech industry. We aim to provide a good background for scientists who need to understand the basics of performing experiments in the context of investigating human diseases. This module covers theory and has also laboratory based practical sessions. You will learn how to navigate safely around a laboratory and identify and use common laboratory equipment. How to keep detailed records, analyse and present your experimental data of those experiments you have performed in the lab. You will discover how you can work with cell culture and how to assess gene expression in these cells. You will learn how to investigate the human genome and study human diseases by analysing RNA, DNA and protein expression with different techniques. We will cover very innovative techniques such as gene knockdown technologies, with CRISPR-Cas9, RNA interference, RNA sequencing and genetically modified model organisms. During this module you will explore how modern molecular techniques can be integrated and used to study human disease.
