Description
Aims:
Our course introduces you to the teaching of all three sciences across KS3 and KS4, and will include a focus on your particular subject specialism (biology, chemistry or physics) across these key stages and also KS5.Ìý You will increase your understanding of how a student's science knowledge and skills are developed as they progress through their school life.Ìý To aid with this, your understanding of continuity and progression will be developed and used to interrogate the National Curriculum through the lens of the 'Big Ideas of and about Science'.
Outcomes:
You will:
- develop your subject knowledge in the context of their developing experience of teaching and learning in London secondary classrooms, including issues of students' alternative conceptions of scientific ideas;
- reflect critically on your own experience as learners and teachers;
- engage with recent and relevant theories of learning and teaching as they relate to the field of Science studies and Mathematics studies (for Physics with Mathematics students only);
- critically and constructively engage with policy contexts and initiatives;
- critically evaluate school-based experiences.
