Description

In this module we will be exploring the development of next generation therapeutics. Using the eye as an exemplar tissue, we will take a journey through therapy development from bench side research to bedside clinical application, with a focus on cellular and molecular approaches to restore vision. The eye is at the forefront of advanced therapy development and the new era of regenerative and precision medicines. The topics covered in this module will include stem cell differentiation, cell transplantation, CRISPR genome editing, antisense oligonucleotides, gene therapy and other molecular therapies. At the end of the module you will understand the process of developing new therapeutics and taking a therapy from discovery to clinical application, and will have developed the knowledge and skills to apply these techniques to a wide range of diseases.
