Description

This module explores the theory, research and practice of nutritional epidemiology and public health nutrition across the developed and developing world. It is a core module for level 6. Topics addressed will include learning about the epidemiologic methods as related to public health nutrition, and about planning result-oriented public health nutrition programs, including but not restricted to:

Principles of epidemiology and evidence-based medicine

Public Health Nutrition Cycle

Food and Nutrition Policy

Dual burden of malnutrition

Agriculture, food and nutrition security - Sustainable food systems - Food waste

Health Inequalities and Food

The obesity epidemic across generations

Prevention and control programmes / management of: protein energy malnutrition, vitamin A deficiency, iodine deficiency disorders (IDD) control programmes, iron deficiency and iron deficiency anaemia in young children

Public health issues of over nutrition – The obesogenic environment

Micronutrient malnutrition; Food fortification: opportunities and challenges

The understanding of the role of nutrition in health (especially NCDs) and behaviour change methods is essential.
