Description
This module is open to MA students only.
This module introduces students to Public Choice theory, a field analysing political processes using the tools of economics. In particular, the political arena is presented as a market where the interactions of different political actors pursuing their private interest shape policies.
The module follows the key developments in the Public Choice literature, starting from the creation of the field in the 1940s and continuing until today's most recent works and debates. Topics covered include: political parties and ideologies, market failures and government failures, rational choice, populism, federalism and the EU, Brexit and democratisation.
