Description

Students produce an individual appraisal of the design proposals they are developing in their Project Portfolio.Students are asked to consider how buildings are designed, constructed and delivered, reflecting on the relationship between building design and technology, the environment and the profession. It is a combined contextual and technical paper that presents the impact of the physical and cultural context of the urban site location and the impact of relevant design precedents on the design brief and integrated design being developed.

The document also requires students to present the relationship between the design and an appropriate understanding of sustainable structural and environmental design principles, as well as the relationship between the design and fire safety and inclusivity in terms of material, equipment and spatial arrangement.Students are also required to illustrate the implications on the design from the point of view of professional practice and legislation.

Note: Design modules and this module will be supported by lectures and seminars that teach students how to understand the overall theme and site location (with especial reference to urban issues), how to develop structural, environmental and building envelope proposals in a sustainable manner and the professional practice issues that relate to the project design.
