Description

Content: This module will provide you with an opportunity to examine the bases for contemporary primary practice and to critically review recent developments in primary education in the UK and internationally. The ways in which theory and research in different disciplines (philosophical, historical, psychological and sociological) can inform and illuminate primary practice will be discussed. Throughout the module, you will be encouraged to share and reflect on your varied experiences of primary education and to consider implications of session content for your professional practice.

Teaching Delivery: This module is taught via 10 lectures.

Module Aims:
The module aims to:

  • Engage participants with UK and international research and debates concerning primary education.
  • Provide the foundation for critical evaluation of the relationship between educational research, policy, and practice.
  • Enable critical examination of the bases for current practice in primary education.
  • Encourage analysis of contemporary developments in primary education largely in the UK but with relevant international comparisons.
  • Enable students to evaluate and provide evidence of their own progress in relation to module aims and learning outcomes.
