This module enables students to analyse key components of opto-electronic systems, to analyse complete opto-electronic systems and to prepare students for design work in opto-electronics and optical communications. It will introduce students to the physical operating principles and applications of photonic devices, and the design of photonic systems and sub-systems, such as high resolution displays and optical fibre communication systems.
On completion of this course, students should have a detailed understanding of:
- Electromagnetic theory
- Circuit Theory
- Basic Coherent and non-coherent optics
- Properties of materials
- Noise in communications systems
- Optoelectronic Devices and Circuits
