Description

The aim of this module is to introduce the assessment of infants and children with hearing loss in clinical practice.

  1. To understand the principles behind newborn hearing screening and early intervention for neural plasticity
  2. To optimise the auditory potential for life long communication and social integration
  3. To establish skills in behavioural and objective methods of hearing assessment in infants and children as the basis for appropriate audiological management
  4. To integrate speech-based assessments into the protocols for evaluating hearing
  5. To develop coherence in the roles of all professionals in the paediatric audiology team
  6. To assess and address the hearing needs of the child within his/her family context
  7. To introduce a culture of reflective practice, service evaluation and professional learning
  8. To apply new techniques in clinical placements and implement change within departmental practice if appropriate
  9. To constructively evaluate and recognise constraints in observed clinical practice
  10. To understand the responsibility conferred by professional training in paediatric audiology and importance of continually developing knowledge and practice

This is an optional module in the MSc / PG diploma Advanced Audiology.
