Description
This module will develop the themes in Nutrition and Metabolism I in detail so that students understand how macro- and micronutrient metabolism depends on the target organ; on inter-organ trafficking of metabolites and on the integration of metabolism. The module integrates this with an understanding of the nutritional requirements for the body and of methods to measure diet and body composition. Areas covered include: macronutrient and micronutrient metabolism, metabolic and nutritional needs of different systems, measuring food intake, dietary reference standards, food composition tables and databases, pre- and pro-biotics and epigenetics and vegetarian and vegan diets.
