Description
‘Community energy systems are critical to achieving UN Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 7: Affordable and clean energy for all and can also make a significant contribution to SDG11: Making cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable by driving economic development and strengthening community links. This module provides an introduction to modelling energy community systems. ÌýThe spatio-temporal nature of energy demand and distributed energy generation will be highlighted and explored using real data. The module focuses on investigating the potential for micro-grids to meet the needs of communities in England and Wales and the benefits they can have for local communities and the power distribution network. The role of community energy systems around the world is also covered.
You will develop skills in modelling, and the visualisation and discussion of results, through applying your knowledge to develop techno-economic models of case studies.’
