Description
The Leading Learning in Ismaili Contexts (LLIC) is a second year module aimed at developing students’ understanding of their own learning, the learning of others, and the teacher’s role in maximising both. ‘Leadership’ is understood in its widest sense; within the home, within the education centre, and at the wider Ismaili community level. The focus on the Ismaili context is drawn upon extensively using students’ own background knowledge, the contributions by guest speakers, and through close collaboration with both IIS tutors and overseas Ismaili teacher and community leaders. During part of the module, the students will be in their home countries which provides them an opportunity to apply, develop and implement programme and module learning in particular Ismaili contexts.
The aim of this module is to support an understanding of effective teacher leadership. The LLIC assessment provides an opportunity to critically reflect on, and better understand, the students’ home context, it also prepares them for the professional teaching they will begin after graduation.
There are ten taught sessions in total, a minimum of six will be face-to-face. This module is further supported with specific, focused tutorial support.
