Description

This module covers various topics on the use of language engineering applications with reference to the work and requirements of staff and freelance translators and language technology specialists. This module is divided into two broad topics: automatic speech recognition (ASR) and machine translation (MT). Students will gain a fundamental understanding of the technologies behind both ASR and MT. The ASR part also includes a look at the use of a speech recognition API, an introduction to basic AI concepts relevant to the technologies, as well as a short preview of the most basic concepts of Python. The MT part includes a brief historical overview of MT, a brief look into pre- and post-editing as well as the assignment which consists of building and evaluating a neural machine translation (NMT) system. As this module runs to capacity, we regret that we cannot accept auditing students.Ìý
