Description
This module is the second part of an introduction to key aspects of Spanish and Latin American history and culture, and follows Introduction to Spanish and Latin American Studies I. Together they act as a foundation for all students studying a degree with Spanish in the title. This second part exposes students to a variety of materials, including prose fiction, visual forms, historical documents etc. from the 19th century to the contemporary period, and explores different ways of making sense of them through historical contextualisation, close reading and critical analysis. Students gain a critical appreciation of the canon of Spanish and Latin American Studies, whilst also developing the tools to explore less canonical authors and materials.
