Description

The aim of this module is to develop students’ understanding on international perspectives of adult learning through the lifecourse (including learning in later life, lifelong learning, learning at work, learning informally), with an overview of the development of the concept of adult learning theoretically and comparatively.  Through addressing these topics in an international perspective the module will identify existing and evolving trends of adult learning, across different countries and regions. TheÌýmodule content will draw on both western and non-western contexts, specifically highlighting some contemporary topical themes such as ageing society, social inclusion, informal learning,Ìýlearning at work, as well as the role and influence of international organisations. The focus of the module will be on how adults learn through the lifecourse, and what distinctive features of adult learning could be identified cross-nationally. By considering the topic of adult learning internationally, this optional module would contribute to enhancing student learning outcomes, specifically through enriching their international outlook and facilitating their research interests and knowledge in the area of adult and lifelong learning.
