Description
The module explores different understandings of sustainability and resilience and how these differences lead to different practical outcomes. The module will also discuss some of the key challenges facing cities and offers an introduction to the role of interdisciplinary thinking and research in addressing these.
Learning Outcomes
- Understand critically the meanings of urban sustainability and resilience from different perspectives
- Identify key challenges facing urban areas
- Discuss the role of interdisciplinary approaches to tackling these key urban challenges
- Critically review interdisciplinary research on urban sustainability and resilience issues
- Understand similarities and tensions between fields and disciplines on a cross-cutting urban challenge
- Examine different approaches to problem solving and apply them to particular case studies
