Description
Module summary: This module introduces the concept of integrated building design (and associated operational aspects) within the context of enhancing health, wellbeing and comfort in buildings. The course is also an introduction to the fundamentals of design and operational strategies for addressing the factors which affect health, wellbeing and comfort in buildings.
Module learning outcomes:
Upon successful completion of the module, you will be able:
- To quantify the combined effect of a wide range of building design decisions on building energy and environmental performance, human comfort, health and wellbeing, for different population groups and health statuses, under the current and future climate.
- To have an overview of a wide range of tools and analytical techniques for the design of healthy buildings, with a focus on thermal comfort, visual comfort, acoustic comfort and indoor air quality.
- To recommend specific building design strategies aiming to optimise a building’s energy, environmental, comfort and indoor air quality performance, in response to a particular design brief and set of criteria.
