Description
Aims:
The aims of this module are to:
- Provide students with the understanding and skills to establish or contribute to a global campaign, movement or organisation which is intended to address a specific social justice concern.
- Support students to develop their skills around multidisciplinary innovative approaches to addressing intractable global challenges using new technology.
- Provide students with the experience and mentoring to develop an idea through the module and leave with a creative product and business plan for change.
Intended learning outcomes:
On successful completion of this module, a student will be able to:Ìý
- Describe and apply social theories of change and the role of new technology within them
- Articulate this learning through a project example Critically evaluate the thematics of examples of processes of global campaigns, movements, and organisations (which have been successful and unsuccessful).
- Produce a creative product or artifact to illustrate (in the case of a digital campaign submission) or evidence (in the case of a produce or technology) of the project idea.
- Communicate about this artifact through narrative contributions and creative tools.
Indicative content:
The following are indicative of the topics the module will typically cover:
- Big ideas: how change happens (the social policy context and some examples, start thinking about their big ideas).
- Mission-setting: establish the mission vehicle and objectives.
- Co-Lab: co-design, user testing, community organising & disruptive partnerships.
- Lift off: launch, build momentum and inspire hopefulness.
- Campaigning: digital tech to change the world.
- Fail fast and innovate.
- Recognise and measure success.
- Leading and building an organisation.
- Risk and resilience for you and the work.
- Long hauling? When is the job done?
Requisites:
To be eligible to select this module as an optional or elective, a student must be registered on a programme and year of study for which it is formally available.
