Description
This module is industry-centred and talks about infrastructure from the perspective of institutional investors. It assesses the investment characteristics of infrastructure assets and the types of vehicles to invest in infrastructure directly and indirectly.
Aims:
The module aims to equip you with the skills and knowledge required to open up career opportunities in infrastructure investment funds or pension fund portfolio managers, funds investing directly in infrastructure, or investment banks’ infrastructure divisions; or to undertake academic specialisation in infrastructure finance.Ìý
Learning Objectives:
• To enhance your understanding of the infrastructure institutional investor universe and provide a comprehensive analysis of the players in the infrastructure investment market. These players involve pension funds, private equity funds, insurance companies, etc.
• To equip you with an in-depth understanding of what is needed for infrastructure to be seen by institutional investors as an asset class. This involves understanding of the risk-return profile of infrastructure assets.
• To provide an understanding of infrastructure investment vehicles and the rationale behind those vehicles.
• To provide real-world examples and case studies of institutional investment in infrastructure.
Pre-requisites for this module are good understanding of investment and finance theory.

At the end of the module, students will be able to:
1. Understand the characteristics of infrastructure as an asset class vis-Ã -vis other asset classes
2. Understand the viewpoint and interest of different investors in infrastructure
3. Differentiate between financial, economic and political motives behind infrastructure investments
4. Understand how infrastructure investment and performance is driven by policy and supply chain dynamics
5. Understand how infrastructure investment and performance is driven by trends in global markets and industrial policy
