Description

In this module, students will consolidate their first two years of study by designing, researching and writing up an independent project on a topic of their own choosing. Thus, this module provides students the opportunity to gain in-depth knowledge of a particular subject of interest, which may be related to a particular module or be cross-cutting. Students will be provided with guidance on topics and topic selection to fit within the project parameters.

The aim of the module is to gain an understanding of a topical area of global humanitarianism through research, analysis or review of an emerging field of literature, a contemporary topic, or a specific humanitarian event or crisis. The module will enhance skills at synthesizing and presenting evidence, as well as help students to develop their ability to review current practice, academic debate, a contemporary topic, political debate, current or previous crises, and/or interpret and evaluate datasets.

The module learning is principally through independent study. In addition, students will receive guidance and training sessions to first choose a topic and then to prepare for the formative and summative assessment work. Students will further be allocated a supervisor to help guide them through their research. Students will conduct Exemption Category projects in line with Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê’s Ethics regulations, and will be asked to consider any ethical and risk concerns associated with their projects.

This module runs throughout the academic year, with formative and summative assessments set at key stages in the project development process.
